Should trees look so strange as they grow in these urban areas that are built up and then left to decay?

There are lots of these places in the the Raleigh/Durham area. I do not think that this is a statement on the area I now live in, because I think that this is common aliment of cities that are building up very quickly.

 

I am just overly sensitive to the problem since I lived for years in Salt Lake City, where the natural environment easily overwhelms the urban one (at least visually).
